Company Profile

Hubbardton Forge

Company Overview

Hubbardton Forge is one of the country’s largest contemporary forges located in Castleton, Vermont. We have been domestically designing and manufacturing award-winning hand forged lighting fixtures and accessories for over 35 years.

Company History

In 1974, Reed Hampton and George Chandler fired up their first forge in an old abandoned barn in Hubbardton, Vermont. Using old tools and advice solicited from the few remaining blacksmiths, they produced hand-forged wrought-iron candlesticks, fireplace screens and home accessories, which they sold directly to the “craft-art” buyer.

The first several years were challenging, but in time, and through much trial and error, Reed and George recognized a consumer demand and by 1978 they had narrowed their focus to concentrate on high-end wrought iron lighting. Their small line began to find its way across the country — gaining recognition for its value, simplicity, and quality.

Over the years, Hubbardton Forge’s work and reputation, as well as that of a handful of quality competitors, has set the standards for an American wrought-iron renaissance.

Today, Hubbardton Forge is recognized as one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of high quality, hand-forged wrought-iron lighting and accessories in the United States. Our line includes hundreds of core designs, each offered with many finish, shade and glass options. Our configure-to-order process enables us to provide our customers with a level of quality and customization that our competitors cannot or will not match. Hubbardton Forge is a unique and innovative business that enjoys an exemplary reputation for design, quality, and service which constitutes our competitive edge against tough overseas competition.

From its inception, Hubbardton Forge has followed sound corporate development and environmental practices through aggressive investment in the future. In recognition of these efforts, we have received multiple awards and accolades, including the Deane C Davis Vermont Company of the Year Award, the Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, and the Best Companies Group’s Best Places to Work in Vermont award. We are active members of our community, and belong to the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility group and the American Lighting Association.
