Working Title: Associate Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering – Founding Faculty
California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a faculty position at the level of Associate Professor in Industrial & Systems Engineering. Experienced faculty at the assistant professor level may also be considered. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and rapidly growing engineering community and play a leadership role in the continued development and launch of Industrial & Systems Engineering at CSUSM as its founding faculty member.
We seek an accomplished teacher-scholar and program builder with broad expertise across Industrial and Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will help shape an innovative, undergraduate-centered curriculum that prepares students to design, analyze, improve, and manage complex systems. We particularly welcome candidates whose experience bridges the industrial and systems engineering disciplines and who can contribute broadly to the development of a cohesive program rather than focusing exclusively on one branch of the field.
Experience with ABET accreditation, engineering curriculum development, and academic program development is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have opportunities to provide leadership in curriculum and laboratory development, assessment and continuous improvement, and the continued growth of the program. Candidates with significant industry experience as well as academic experience are strongly encouraged to apply. CSUSM Engineering places a high value on connections with the vibrant industries of San Diego and Southern California. We seek a colleague who is enthusiastic about developing partnerships with local and regional industry that enhance the student experience through internships, capstone projects, applied research, professional engagement, and other forms of collaboration. Areas of specialization are open, and outstanding candidates from across Industrial and Systems Engineering are encouraged to apply.
This appointment comes at an especially exciting time for Engineering at CSUSM. With the support of the Department of Education grants, CSUSM has established modern engineering laboratories. Engineering is thriving, with student enrollment continuing to grow and a new building opening in 2027 that will provide expanded opportunities for engineering education, laboratories, collaboration, and program growth. The successful candidate will join a faculty committed to building modern engineering programs responsive to needs of students, industry, and the region. CSUSM embraces the teacher-scholar model, valuing excellent undergraduate teaching and the involvement of students in research, design, and applied problem solving. Our students bring a rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences to the university, and many are the first in their families to attend college. We seek colleagues who are committed to student success and who will contribute to an inclusive environment in teaching, scholarship, and service.
CSUSM's engineering programs emphasize hands-on and collaborative learning, innovative technology, close relationships with industry, and curricula responsive to a rapidly changing technological environment. The university's location in North San Diego County provides exceptional opportunities for partnerships with the region's diverse technology, manufacturing, biotechnology, healthcare, defense, communications, and other engineering-intensive industries. The campus is located on a scenic 304-acre hillside approximately 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean in a region known for its temperate climate, quality of life, and dynamic technology and innovation economy.
For this position, CSUSM is particularly interested in candidates who are excited not simply to join an existing program, but to help build its future, developing a distinctive Industrial & Systems Engineering program, strengthening its connections with industry, supporting accreditation and continuous improvement, mentoring students and faculty, and helping shape the next phase of Engineering at CSUSM.
