Position Summary & Responsibilities
A Facilities Maintenance Technician 3, under general direction and/or using detailed procedures/work instructions, safely performs a variety of mechanical maintenance activities involving, carpentry, laying carpet, painting, plumbing, masonry, concrete, and pipefitting. Work involves preventive maintenance, simple troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance including the following:
- Operation and inspection of machines or equipment to diagnose defects and sources of trouble.
- Dismantling and reassembling equipment and performing repairs.
- Replacing broken or defective parts and ordering the production of a replacement part.
- Working with technical manuals and repair specifications and procedures.
- Assist in layout of approved workorders and tasks.
- Plumbing tasks include cutting tubing, piping, threading, assembly, wall penetrations and securing materials, all per IPC and NETL policy.
- Performing standard tests to ensure all work meets specifications.
- Operate heavy equipment, backhoe, skid steer, forklift, snow removal equipment, and man lifts.
- Digging, filling, and tamping excavations.
- Cutting trees and brush.
- Masonry, brick, block etc., and concrete work forming, pouring, and finishing.
- Carpentry, drywall and finishing, drop ceiling, door and cabinet work, trim, and finishing.
- Testing overhauled/repaired equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Reviewing and implementing Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO) plans to ensure work is performed safely.
- May require a valid license or certificate for backflow prevention, non-code welding or plumbing.
FMT 3, under general supervision, may perform minor tasks as needed, including, but not limited to:
- Other duties as assigned to insure timely project execution.
- Maintaining facilities in clean, safe and orderly condition.
- Organizing interior and exterior of shop and other maintenance facilities.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A High School diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of job-related mechanical experience in an industrial/construction environment is required.
- Requires qualified journeyman (plumbing and carpentry) in accordance with State or union rules.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail are required.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and software programs for administrative duties such as email is required.
- Must demonstrate a good driving record (no significant violations such as DUI, loss of license, inability to obtain personal insurance or currently covered under a high-risk insurance policy, etc.).
- Ability to pass a Fit for Duty employment test to verify the ability to meet the physical and functional demands of the position.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to pass an MVR (clean motor vehicle report) and background investigation, including but not limited to nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by the contract.
- United States citizenship is required to work on a federal contract and will be electronically verified via E-Verify.
Preferred Responsibilities and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED/TASC/ HiSET with at least ten (10) years of job- related experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field with at least eight (8) years of job-related experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Such positions may involve routine lifting of up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, and carrying.
- Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
Work Environment:
- Most positions involve work in environments (e.g., projects, labs, outside locations, etc. where mechanical equipment is being installed, tested, analyzed, monitored, or operated and / or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy and or have exposed moving components.
Hours of Work:
This is typically an 8 hour per day daylight schedule. Response to urgent call-outs at nights and on weekends is required as well as scheduled weekend/holiday outages to perform preventive and corrective maintenance, however these instances are very limited.
